Cozy boho Christmas wedding at Willowdale Estate
Victoria & Aiden
Victoria and Aiden got married at the gorgeous Willowdale Estate after several postponements. The wedding was a few weeks before Christmas in New England. I’m completely sold on cozy winter weddings after this one. Amy Spirito Photography captured the couple’s day and our florals so beautifully—I’m so thrilled to share them with you!
concept & color palette
The bride knew she wanted to incorporate burgundy and sage as a nod to the Christmas season, with a boho cozy vibe. I built out a color story including shades of red, burgundy, beige, blush and dusty pinks with just a hint of dusty blue. I included tons of textural elements like festival bush, taupe brunia, dried eulalia grass, thistle, blueberry cedar, hanging pepperberry, and jasmine vine For our focal blooms we used king protea, hearts roses, and quicksand roses. Our supporting secondary flowers included mocha lisinathus, red ranunculus, and cappuccino roses.
bouquets
The bride wanted her bouquet to be reminiscent of her grandmother’s cascading bridal bouquet with flowing ribbon. We created a modern take on that design with an asymmetrical bouquet with cascading greenery on one side. To finish it off, we used gorgeous wide silk ribbon in “Tuscany” from Silk & Willow for additional color and texture.
For the bridal bouquet, we included more red and burgundy blooms for contrast with the white dress. For the maids’ bouquets, we used more of the lighter pink shades with just a pop of red. In lieu of a king protea reserved for the bridal, we included dried spear palms for funky texture. We wrapped the stems in “Pebble Grey” silk, also sourced from Silk & Willow.
ceremony
For the ceremony, we created a stunning installation on a gold circular arch to create a backdrop for the couple. We used a color blocking approach with two main sections. The top section was dominated by burgundy hearts roses and festival bush with smaller sections of greenery, blue thistle and dusty pink cappuccino roses. The lower section utilized the light colors like king protea, quicksand roses, dried eulalia grass, mocha lisianthus and dried spear palms. This design with color blocking made it feel more intentional.
For the aisle, we kept it simple with greenery garland lining each side to create a beautiful path to the arch.
reception
The reception was setup in the same room so the arbor stood throughout the night to serve as a statement piece. We kept it simple for the reception flowers with compote centerpieces in gold metallic vessels for a glam touch and a modest arrangement on the front of the newlyweds’ table.
Congrats to Victoria and Aiden! Thanks for letting us be a part of your big day!
