High fashion maternity photoshoot
Back in April, I collaborated on a high fashion maternity photoshoot with the brilliant Haus of Gravity. It was largely stripped down from a typical styled shoot with only one model and one setup space. It made for a beautiful maternity shoot with all the focus on the glowing mama-to-be. For florals, I created a ground installation and a floral tattoo as the main pieces to play with.
For the ground installation, I wanted it to feel lush and feminine. I used a color palette of beige, blush and white with just a pop of light blue for contrast. Some of the flowers and foliage I used were quicksand roses (my go-to for everything), sandstorm roses, spider mums, eucalyptus, baby’s breath, white alstroemeria and light blue delphinium. We used some baby’s breath to adorn the mini Greek statues as well as for our muse to play with. Baby’s breath has a lovely texture that photographs really well.
The simple studio space with the focus on the model and florals made this photoshoot really special. I would love to recreate a similar ground installation for a wedding or elopement. It could be used for a ceremony backdrop or in a number of places in a reception space. The shape and heigh are totally customizable and the options are endless for how to transform this concept for other events.
I also played around with a floral tattoo that went on the model’s wrist and down her hand towards her fingertips. It played a unique role in some poses where we wanted to enhance the mama-to-be’s belly.
